State of the City
The King City Chamber partners with the King City Rotary Club to sponsor the State of the City. Our Mayor, City Manager, Police Chief and, if available, the Commander of Fort Hunter Liggett present information to the community about upcoming plans or ongoing programs for King City.
The luncheon is a catered event and is generally held at the Orradre Building at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds at the end of January.
Annual Awards Dinner
The King City Chamber’s big event of the year! At this event, we honor our Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Friend of the Community, and the Hermie Robles Youth of the Year. Our honorees are chosen by nominations from the community.
The Annual Awards dinner is a catered event and includes both a silent auction and a live auction and is followed by award presentations and music by a local band or DJ.
Fireworks
The King City Chamber partners with the City of King and is supported by businesses in the Community to have a fireworks show on the evening of July 3rd at the Stampede Grounds at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. The Chamber asks for donations for seating at the Stampede Grounds to defray costs.
July 4th Parade
The King City Chamber works with the City of King and the King City Police to present the July 4th Parade. The parade begins at 2nd & Broadway at 10:30 am. The Chamber awards trophies or ribbons (1st, 2nd, 3rd) for each entry category. The categories are Children 12 & Under, Floats, Tractors, Equestrian entries, Clubs/Marching Units, Trucks/Fire Engines, Military Entries, Automotive, and Other/Individual entries.
El Grito Parade
The King City Chamber presents the El Grito Parade on the second Sunday in September to commemorate the “cry” or “shout” that started the Mexican War of Independence.
Annual Lighted Christmas Parade
The King City Chamber works with the City of King and the King City Police, to present the Lighted Christmas Parade on the first Friday after Thanksgiving week, which is usually the first Friday in December.
This parade starts at Mildred and Broadway led by KC police, banners, color guards, Fort Hunter Liggitt commanders and other dignitaries. Community groups, clubs, businesses and individuals are welcome to join in with floats or other vehicles, all lighted and decorated for the holiday season.
First, second or third ribbons are awarded to the best decorated vehicles. A trophy is presented to the business that best follows the theme chosen for the year. The categories are Business /Merchants, Public Service, Clubs/Organizations and Other/Individuals.
The parade ends at Broadway and 2nd Street at the Town Plaza, where Santa waits for children. There are also booths with food vendors and entertainment.
